As you may or may not know I have been on the road travelling for the past week – 2500 miles, through 11 states in the USA.

My beloved has done most of the driving, so we’ve had some good talks, much time to think, beautiful scenery to see and lots of people to see at the rest stops.

 

 

 

 

I’ve also gotten to see the so called ‘ food’ at the gas stations / restaurants, all the fast food wrappers and plastic water bottles being thrown out at the rest areas and I realize there is still so much work that needs to be done!

I thought people were waking up to the hazards of plastic water bottles to their bodies and the environment??  Glass bottles or even stainless steel is the best way to go and refill them!!

I know while travelling the importance of packing healthy foods so that the crap oops I mean ‘food’ sold at the gas stations and adjoining fast food restaurants won’t be a temptation if I am really hungry.

Being healthy inside depends on what you choose to eat, think, speak and do.

I feel it’s much more important than what clothes I am wearing, what car I am driving or what star is doing or saying!

I had a couple stop and talk to us as they watched me put together a quick and healthy salad and salad dressing right on the spot – healthy eating does not have to be boring, hard or expensive.  That is also one of the reasons we travel with Purium – it’s food!!

I am trying to find how to bring my message across to people especially women – one of health AND self love.

Just like snow flakes, there are many varieties of sizes and shapes.

Yet when we do things, eat things, think things and say things that don’t empower us, that don’t bring us closer to health and our natural state of joy and love how to really show and share with people that it’s not really self loving.

When we are eating lots of processed, chemical concoctions labelled as food it’s not healthy – junk in, junk out – in other words we also can’t think or act clearly – how do I know?  I watch people, I see the aging in the face and body as they walk slowly and with pain or look stressed and tired – we’ve been programmed to believe by our age that we are aging and it doesn’t matter what we feed our bodies or our minds.

Question – if you are feeding your body junk food, highly processed food that are filled with addictive additives and chemicals  how can you think or feel great?

Show up being the best, vibrant, healthy you possible!!

PS.  While having so much time in the car I have been working on some programs using the tools I have over the years to break free from emotional eating, healthy eating, low self esteem and any body issues – we can live a great life by being healthy and being ourselves!!

 Opening Ceremony on the Friday evening.

I got to have the chance this past weekend to not only attend the Squamish Goddess Festival but to shoot some of it!!

Met some amazing ladies, had some great pampering time, bought some cool things, got immersed in the feminine and with females and oh smooch more!

 

It was located on a piece of beautiful property outside of Squamish, BC and even thought the days before were raining and raining hard, it cleared up to be an incredible weekend weather wise!!

Tammra Broughton is the creator of this special weekend, who with the help of many hands has started making her dream a reality.

Even though I was running around catching sneak peaks aka photos of workshops, singers, vendors and women connecting, I also got the chance to participate in a few and make some wonderful connections and new friendships.

What I love about these events is the gathering of women in a nurturing, inspiring and loving atmosphere where we can leave the everyday grind, competition and judging aside.

We can to reconnect with ourselves and nature – two very powerful things!!

We brought in traditional teachings that have been lost along the way – beautiful Grandmother Kaarlina – had a very powerful group session Saturday evening where the support of women was huge – so needed in our society today!!

There were many workshops to choose from all empowering the self and the feminine, including dance, yoga and great music.

I think in our society today the word Goddess is misunderstood and so needed to bring back balance in this very unbalanced world.

Movement of the body and quieting the mind, expressing, releasing and loving – one can’t put into words what really happens to one at festivals like this – you just have to go yourself and experience it!!

It helps to connect the masculine and feminine inside of us – we ALL have both but unfortunately many of us in todays’ world are running way more of the masculine, live in cities where concrete is everywhere and with technology have disconnected from self, nature and each other.  We have become somewhat lost, losing our traditions, intuition and love.

And there are no age limits!!

If you are around Squamish – Vancouver area next June – I highly recommend attending it is well worth it!!

I was going to call it Summer of Self Love but thought no, it needs to be longer and even Season of Self Love is too short,it really should be seasons!!

As many of you know that have followed me or my blog food and healthy food, / eating has been a big part of my life, food has also been one of my biggest challenges in my life – from not eating to binging to in my earlier years body obsessed to strict eating guidelines (raw foods only) to letting go of any and all rules and names (vegan,raw, foodie etc) to coming to pretty much a neutral place.

I even gave up trying to convince others they shouldn’t eat this or that or telling them what they should eat.  I feel so much lighter.  I also gave up trying to be perfect – that was a big one for me.

We are all so different when it comes to body shapes, body sizes, our genes (to a certain degree) and our likes and dislikes.

The base for me still resides in as close to nature as possible – clean and organic but I also have really allowed myself to be human and know I’m not perfect and stop being so hard on myself.

Believe it or not how and what we eat, really does say much about how we love ourselves.

Now I totally understand some people never have an issue with food, their bodies or self love, but I’m not talking to those people.

I want to connect and share my thoughts, messages and journey with the ones that have and are struggling with food issues, body issues, low self esteem issues.

I think back over my life and all the time I wasted on working out trying to get my thighs thinner – now please don’t misinterrupt what I am saying here, there is a difference between an obsession, loathing your self or your body and being healthy happy and free of that and still wanting to be, feel and look healthy.

What is the difference and fine line?

I turned 50 in December and right around the same time I put o an extra 10 lbs.  First time in my life where my eight has been heavier and not coming off.  Yes I’m in menopause, and I have readers (wth where did the time go!!??)  It actually brought up the last of my body issues that I hadn’t fully embraced.

Could I still love myself enough even with some extra weight,some cellulite?  I was eating healthy, getting some exercise – ok not like I used too when I was younger, working out daily, waitressing (so running around) and then 2 young children – busy young children (more running around).  I did work at my computer more, read more, and took life a little slower after being so busy for years.

I also wasn’t having really any other side effects other than the odd little night sweat, so quite frankly I could live with a few extra pounds – but I still had some demons – not feeling good, enough or sexy.  My clothes were tighter, I could see my body shifting.

Perfect – what better time then now to really let go of that bs yes bullshit and belief systems on my body defines who I am.

I love taking care of it, I love feeling good,healthy, radiant, alive but it’s not who I am.

It’s the place that my soul calls home.

And just like the house we live in, we do need to take care of it so it looks nice (or not),  and make it our home so we are comfy in it,surrounding ourselves with things we like.

Would we spend much time in a place we didn’t like? Maybe temporarily to save for your ‘dream’ home or one that better suits you, unless money is a major factor for where and how we live, we can still decorate the inside of it to be our temple.

What are the ways to take care of you that maybe you have forgotten or left behind?

For me I am and have started to love me just for me – I’m here, alive, unique and instead of trying to fit in, focusing on my gifts, joy, love and more fun.  Each day is difference but I do something daily that uplifts my spirits, that nurtures me, that feeds my soul – how do I know? It just feels good.

I might go for a walk in the rain forest here or shoot a sunset – one I’ve shot many times but it always brings me joy, connect with an old friend, take an afternoon cat nap, learn a new tool in Photography, have my toes painted – love having colourful toes in the summer, send a love note to my honey, yoga for the sake of connecting and feeling my body not for exercise.  That one alone feels so good and different.

Just like the sunsets and sunrises that I love to catch – they are never the same.  To some people they may be, but not to me.  Each moment, each day is new, so are they and so am I – I get to choose  – why not choose beauty and love.

Maybe it’s my age that I’ve come more into me and some moments I almost wish I could go back in time and take my wisdom, self love and knowledge back to my earlier years so that I wouldn’t waste all that energy on fighting my body, hating it or abusing it.

I look forward to posting more on these topics and more especially for women as it’s totally out of control now.

Seeing the younger generation with food, body issues and dieting really saddens me – it’s incredible what marketing and advertising can do to us.  Yet it’s not just them, it’s women in general.

Start adding in sprinkles of self love and self nurturing no matter how busy you are, cause if you don’t you may be forced to at some point in your life and trust me that way is not always fun!!

LOL – I couldn’t resist putting in this photo – looks like void of life eh? Isn’t that similar to so much of our so called ‘ food’ is these days??

Food Gone Crazy!!

If I was just starting out today to change how I was eating towards better healthy, real foods, I would be so confused and overwhelmed I probably wouldn’t do anything and I have a feeling that has happened and is happening to many people.

We have people from every way of eating claiming that it’s the best and the only way – from vegetarian, to vegan, to raw foods, to Ketogenics, to Atkins, and I could go on!!!

Everyone is talking about food, eating food, celebrating with food, shopping for food, watching food channels and more.  It’s trendy to be a Foodie now.  There is so much more marketing and awareness, but my question is WHY did it become so confusing, scientific,  and even complicated!!??

What drives me nuts even more so is the labels, the mis-marketing, the confusion like when I google Superfoods I get blueberries, salmon and eggs…..seriously?? WTH?? Or Gluten -free yet has more toxic ingredients then if it wasn’t glue free.

Superfoods are nutrient dense foods – I don’t think those are it!!

What I have noticed is food is everywhere and so much of it is still chemical concoctions labelled as food and we are mass consuming much of the wrong things still – so much so that I was just informed in Canada they are pushing through an Obesity Tax.  At first it actually pissed me off as I thought how rude, BUT the foods that people overeat and make you sick and fat will have the tax.  Well, fine and dandy but I feel the crappy food or so called ‘food’ should just be removed period!!! I mean if it isn’t  food but chemical concoctions, and people are getting fat and sick by eating them, then lets get rid of them!!  Oh, but what about profits?………..it really comes down to that and another way to get more money out of people.

It bothers me as so much of that food has so many chemicals in them, there are now over 10 000 food chemicals and some them are addictive ones.  So not only are you eating high empty calorie and saturated fats type foods but with no nutritional value, so your body really still is hungry even though you have eaten something.  Yet on top of that they use addictive chemicals so now you want even more…….kind of sick isn’t it??

What’s truly the difference between Non-gmo (and why do those companies have to get that labelling and yet the GMO companies and products don’t have to???) and GMO free?  GMO free is ALL ingredients are gmo free, but non-gmo can have a certain amount of gmo’s in them……….yeah figure that one out.

What about real foods that mother nature gave us, organic as much as possible, simple, clean and natural……..boring you say?  That’s because your taste buds and emotions have been overtaken by the chemicals and I’m not being sarcastic here it’s actually the truth.  Emotions and addictions are big and the food industry knows that!!!

When you go back to clean food and try to eat highly processed foods (even with natural, organic or labels like that on them – if they are processed they are processed period, yes they can have better quality ingredients but……..and yes I am not perfect I do eat some) you won’t be able to eat them, your body will not want them and you will know and feel it.  I hope your food addiction doesn’t control you!! 🙂  It’s not what you do sometimes, it’s what you do all the time – other words what are your habits??

What though with all of this food around and it being trendy to be a foodie and the addictive chemicals in the food does one do that struggles with emotional eating or has an eating disorder?

There’s nothing more freeing than making peace with food, having to have no label about how or what you eat and loving yourself enough to feel good enough not to have to use or abuse it, not being controlled by it and not over needing it!

Here I Come!

 

It’s been an interesting start to 2016 – and if you follow me at all, have noticed I have been posting much less on social media and even my blog has sat with no entries for a little while.

In December I turned 50, had a beautiful and quiet birthday yet fun with my beloved.

In February I decided to head down to Florida for a couple of weeks to visit my dad and step mom for their birthdays. I ended up spending a month there and totally unplugged and hung out at the pool many afternoons, with a little walking, some bike riding and a little yoga – but that was mostly it.

I sat and did very little.  It was an interesting time in my life – reflecting – not that turning 50 is bad but I realized that half my life had passed by, and fast!! My kids were off travelling, my dog is getting old and slowing down (13 now) and I got to thinking was I truly living, being and doing what I truly wanted to be doing.  How did I spend most of my first 50 years and what did I want to be doing? Where did I want to be living and how?

Health has always been important to me, and I also have shared that I have had my own struggles with things.  I looked at where I’ve been in my past and where I am now and where I wanted to go.  That is the cool thing about life – you are either growing or decaying, there really is no standing still.  Even though time may pass, what had changed for me?  A whole bunch of things for sure but I still wanted to expand and take it even further.  There are many places I want to visit, many friends I haven’t met yet, many photographs I have not shot yet, unmade recipes, beaches unwalked, business growth not yet experienced, workshops not yet taken, words not yet spoken and art not yet created.

There was still a lot of living to be done!!

I also looked at things I struggled with in my life, my love for eating and feeling healthy, my programming, my desire for more creativity, more photography, more yoga, more travel and how I could combine it all – I am just not a one size fits all type of girl – I want to squeeze more juice out of life!! I want more living!!  And I want to be able to share some of my journey, my story so that maybe just maybe it makes a difference in someone’s life!

I’ve really been diving into programming, confidence, my soul, what makes my heart sing, why we are here, intentions, energy, the universe and man I could go on.

It’s been an interesting few months!!

All I can say is I am back, there will be more inspiration, photographs, rants, stories, laughter, love and yes still some recipes just not the focus.

So I do hope you’ll hang around for more and if you like what you see share.

Looking forward to more of this journey in this game we call life!!

The Pier

As I sit and write this on the last day of 2015, I’m thinking back over the past year and what an incredible year it’s been. I have so much to be thankful for and if you are reading this that includes you as without you I wouldn’t have a blog!

I was able to leave my job I had for a short time in film as I created a residual income, did two amazing 6 week road trips down through the southern states getting my fill of sun, beach and warm weather with an incredible man, (and many photos taken), Plus many little side trips in between, I started picking up my camera more and now know that 2016 will have much more camera action going on. I have made many new incredible friends, ate amazing food, got my health back, started meditating, had more gratitude for things and people, got excited more at the little things in life, began deprogramming myself on many levels of programs that weren’t even mine (still going on of course lol), watched and captured many amazing sunsets, got to see whales, dolphins, bears and a few others in the wild, had many picnics, created art, got to walk my dog in the rainforest, made love often and turned 50………….

I share that with you not to brag but to show what is possible. for me I had to step away from the norm and what was expected of me. Plus my kids turned 20 & 21 and are off doing their thing now – so it’s become more me focused and not in an ego type way!

I gave up making New Years Resolutions many years ago and now create intentions and get in touch with the truth of who I really am – or keep trying to – I am human!

Most New Year Resolutions are the same as last years, the year before and so on.

The most common ones are

– lose weight

– get into better shape

– get healthier

– make more money

– get out of debt

– quit smoking

– spend more time with family

– quit drinking

– more travelling

They are also the the most commonly broken!

What about being happy? What makes you sing, get you excited, make your juices flow. What about creating a life YOU love? Without comparing it to anyone else or what they have or are doing?

So I ask you – how will it be different this year? How will you do things differently?

What changes could you make, even if they were tiny things yet done daily, that could become more permanent in your way of living taking you closer to how you want to live and feel? So that at the end of 2016 you can look back and love what happened!

What does beauty from the inside out really mean?

As you know I love eating healthy, and helping, guiding, inspiring others to do the same.

We have been so programmed and lied to by tv, advertising and hidden agendas from corporations that are for profits not health – that it’s confusing and overwhelming for the average person these days. I so get that!!

Our bodies are the biggest source and signals for what is truly going on inside, but we’ve been taught to ignore that, not to trust our inner guidance ( and many if not most people are shut off from that connection). If we need to go to the dr’s for some reason – the dr. may spend 10 mins with you, doesn’t ask about what you eat, how you live, if you exercise, mediate, laugh, get sunshine or how much water you drink, have a healthy sex life, if you like or hate your job or even your spouse and so on. Instead they prescribe a pill maybe several in many cases..
Don’t get me wrong, if I broke my leg I would go to the dr’s but not for other things.

Our bodies talk to us, when in pain they are literally screaming at us to pay attention (unless of course you broke your leg :)).

www.jodiburke.comWhat we eat , put into our bodies can be reflected back in our hair- dry, brittle, shiny etc, our eyes – alive or dull, skin tones – dry flakey, dull or radiant, clean and clear or full of acne etc
Also our thoughts and emotions reflect out from our bodies as well.

Most people that are eating healthy live foods, also have mostly healthy thoughts and feelings ( no one is perfect nor should they be) that are self empowering, self loving, vibrant, alive and have more life.

www.jodiburke.comChances are they are also taking time for life enhancing or healthy things like exercise, yoga, nature, laughter, good sex, water, (oops wrong order??? Lol) fulfilling relationships ( in other words loving not draining or drama causing relationships) and work that inspires them and that they love (notice I didn’t use the word job???).

I’m on my way to catch a ferry this am and was in rush hour traffic – I cannot imagine doing this every day, how much time does it take and suck from someone not to mention energy?? I look at people’s eyes and faces and see so much stress………..the body talks.

The point I am making here is we have been programmed to believe that these shampoos, or this skin care line or this product for acne etc etc will take care of things. How many times have you tried something and it didn’t work or only works for a little while and then stops? Or that we have to keep up with the Jones – who the hell are they anyways? Or we need to fit in – according to who? Trading time for money and at the same time letting someone else decide your worth. Or how it’s never new enough, big enough, fast enough,……..according to who????

I want to leave you with some questions to ponder……..

What is real health to you?

What is real wealth to you?

Are you feeling as good as you cold be?

Who’s programming have you boughten into – the dr’s, tv commercials, ads, collective consciousness or yours?

What feeds your soul and are you doing it?

When was the last time you laughed and laughed and laughed?

When was the last time your went for a walk in nature?

How much clean water (no not bottled) are you drinking?

How much fresh or live foods are you eating?

When was the last time you meditated or were fully present?

Do you love what you do or spend most of your time at? (i.e. work)

Are your relationships healthy, fun, empowering?

Do you have a healthy relationship and sex life with your partner?

Is there open and honest communication in your life?

How much tv do you watch?

Do you spend our free time doing things you love to do?

Do you spend any time on self care?

Do you exercise or do any body movement?

Keep is simple – eat real foods ( not from a package) as much as possible, use green foods and Superfoods, use body products that are free of chemicals, toxins and artificial additives, think and feel amazing – no matter what is going on. Yes we all have crap in our lives but it’s not what is going on around you it is what is going on inside of you that matters!! Find ways that nurture you!

Weed and tend to that garden of weeds daily (mind bs like judgement, criticism especially towards self, dramas).

Instead focus on

Intentions

Gratitude

Love

Self Love

Being Present

Eating Clean

Joy

That is true beauty from the inside out!

One of the things I love about practicing Long Exposure Photography is it gets me to really slow down, breath, take a look around, and practice Gratitude.

I choose the tag line Healthy is Cool for more than just food. Food is very important, so are our thoughts, feelings and actions.

They are all part of the whole body, mind, spirit connection.

Superfoods ar nutrient dense foods – could also say high vibration foods.

Thoughts can be high vibrational as in empowering, self loving, non-judgmental or they can be low vibrational as in disempowering, self criticism or judgemental.

Emotions can be high vibrational (love, gratitude, joy) or low vibration (anger, fear, doubt).

Actions and Words are the same.

The higher the frequency, the higher the energy, the higher the connection.

Sometimes being in slow motion is being fully present, alive, aware and unplugged!! We all need those moments to recharge and connect with ourselves and to be able to be clear

I was awake for early this morning and finished watching episode 6 of the video documentary series The Truth About Cancer by Ty Bollinger – with 29 Doctors, 11 Scientists and 9 Survivors.

This episode was about diet, nutrition and what to eat to heal cancer and not feed cancer – yes feed cancer cells.

Guess what they live off of?? Sugar.

What is in most of our foods today especially packaged, man made foods?

Do you ever question why things have come about?

I have and not a lot makes sense to me.

Like today, being Easter, if you are religious it’s about Jesus rising from the dead ( and more).

It’s about Springtime,new flowers, new beginnings.

How the heck did an Easter bunny get involved and copious amounts of sugar??

Could it be a major marketing, promoting, buying for profits thing?

Just like Santa Claus – Cocoa Cola invented him, another huge profit making time of year and sugar, over indulgence feast on many levels.

Kind of makes you shake your head and wonder doesn’t it??!!

Anyways, I’ll step down off my soap box – just had to share this video – I think the information in these videos is important, crucial in this day and age and everyone should be watching them – so please share them!!

For some change can be hard, there might be 2 or 3 days that are uncomfortable or not fun – let’s face it – if you have been eating anything less than 100% organic, non-gmo real, whole foods you will have some crap in your body, and if you have been eating a bunch of sugar, caffeine and processed foods you will have a bunch of crap in your body.  Once you get through those few days (and they do pass fast believe it or not) the results and last few days are amazing.  You will feel great, you will eat less food, you will have more energy and more.

Because I am human, I am not perfect, it was just the holidays, I ate some foods I probably shouldn’t have, I ate more cooked foods than normal and can feel it and I want to feel better – I want my 2015 to be the best year yet by looking and feeling great – the best I have looked and felt in a long time.  I am entering my 50th year – (ok I just admitted that to everyone and I realized I have lived half my life already) – and I am ready to take my health, body, life and living to another level and since I have already experienced the results from this I know it can get better.
