Markets were not like there are here in North America or even Mexico for that matter – as you can see by the photos – the grocery stores we found had very little in it – much frozen meat, some low quality oil, some crackers, rice, some canned goods and of course beer and rum oh an pop too!
We also noticed with the papaya’s and pineapples even though they were fresh and in season sometimes had no taste at all………interesting.  I know if I buy something like that in Canada in the off time same thing – yet I was surprised there!
Most of the restaurants in Cuba offered the same things – salad (which was cabbage and maybe a couple of slices of tomato and cucumber), fried pork, chicken or fish, rice – white and sometimes with black beans.

Once in awhile the restaurant got a little more fancier and offered some steaks and lobster – for being in Cuba it was not cheap.
They had some hamburger stands and quite a few pizza stands which a friend bought one and I had a bite – Couldn’t even swallow it it was so gross – you know those McCain pizza’s kids love – those now seemed decadent!!
Lets just say I ate a lot of cabbage, tomatoes, papaya and pineapple and not a whole lot else – I tried the local cheese – had to definitely eat it with something else!
The first night back in Mexico I realized the choices I have and all the good fresh foods and it doesn’t even have what Canada and the USA has and I was excited!!
Not that even half of the food choices we have in NA is really food which brings me to the fact we have choice, we eat much as if we look around many people in North America are overweight, diabetic, have high chloestraol and more.

By the way how are your New Year’s Resolutions going??
This is usually the start of fading out.

Food Gratitude is just that – stopping and being  grateful for it – for the nutrition and fuel it brings to the body, choosing health over taste, loving what you eat (unless it’s so chemically concocted that your taste buds are now jaded) and eating without technology on or being plugged in, watching the conversation you are having while eating – yes seriously and not eating on the run or while driving…………….
